Advent Meditation 4

Growing in You

some privacy, some anointing cream (Aqueous Cream or hand cream is safe and good – but if you don’t have these don’t worry), enough time not to worry about time.

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy;

If you don’t have cream just enjoy giving your belly a gentle rub.  Take time – enjoy.
As you rub your belly whisper………….

The angel messenger comes to a young woman living in the back-water of Nazareth. She is told she will be overshadowed and through the power of the Most High, the divine will be created within her.
Here the emphasis is on the Spirit’s work in her life rather than her seeming lack of qualifications. Although afraid, at risk of being outcast and misunderstood, she is willing and open to that powerful overshadowing. Later she pours out a song of praise.
Mary was unique as was her commission, but maybe we are all in some small way asked if we might be open to the overshadowing of the Most High in our life. To somehow allow the divine to be created in us; for us also to carry the divine. Or better maybe – to become conscious of the divine which we are already carrying.
How can I nurture the divine I am carrying?

In yoga it is sometimes called the ‘pose of the child’. Breathe.
“be born in me today”

Send angels to me overshadowing God.
Although I am hesitant and often
fearful of the future unwrapping ahead of me.
But I will I say yes to you today – “Let it be to me”.

Grow in me, my Beloved, a unique creation of your love.
Like Mary may I know you growing in me to a maturity.
Mary, mother of Jesus,
come, I pray, to me.
Reassure me when I’m afraid and whisper
always to me new mysteries of love.

  1. Thank Carole – I really enjoyed putting together the meditations and sending them out into the world. Glad you enjoyed them. I love the Advent themes – the waiting, hoping, expecting is so exquisite.
